KITZBÜHEL, July 27, 2017
Organizers of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel announced on Thursday that German veteran Tommy Haas will team up with Austrian youngster Sebastian Ofner in the doubles competition of the ATP 250 event held in Austria next week. The duo will receive a wild card.
Haas played his last match on German soil as a professional tennis player in his native town of Hamburg earlier this week, when he lost to Nicolas Kicker in the opening round of the German Tennis Championships. On Wednesday, he teamed up with German young gun Daniel Altmaier, but the pair fell in the first round of the doubles competition.
Ofner enjoyed a dream run at this year’s Wimbledon. Playing his first ever matches on grass, he qualified for the main draw and ousted Jack Sock to reach the third round. The 21-year-old began his pro career two years ago, winning five ITF Futures titles. He progressed to the ATP Challenger Tour this season and advanced to his first final this May in Mestre, finishing runner-up to Joao Domingues. Ofner is coached by Wolfgang Thiem, father of World No. 7 Dominic.
