MEERBUSCH, August 14, 2017

Defending champion Florian Mayer opened another title bid at the €43,000 Bucher Reisen Tennis Grand Prix in Meerbusch with a double bagel against Belgian Yannik Reuter on Monday.

The German veteran saved all three break points he faced, capitalizing on six of his own to finish the encounter in only 37 minutes.

“You could see today, why Florian is ranked No. 57 in the world,” tournament director Marc Raffel was pleased with the performance of the top-seed in Meerbusch. “There are days, when everything works out in a perfect way.”

Mayer will next play Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain. The 20-year-old, who clinched three ITF Futures titles this year including one of them on German soil, defeated Frenchman Tristan Lamasine 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 11 minutes.

Fifth seed Oscar Otte emerged victorious from the all-German-affair with Daniel Masur, winning 6-4, 6-4. The World No. 146 from Cologne won 73 per cent of his first service points and broke serve three times to secure victory in one houra and 14 minutes. Next up for Otte will be either Andreas Haider-Maurer from Austria or Germany’s Matthias Bachinger.
