MANERBIO, August 27, 2017
Roberto Carballés-Baena has picked up his second ATP Challenger title in four weeks, winning the €43,000 Internazionali di Manerbio Trofeo “Dimmidisi” on Sunday. The 24-year-old Spaniard defeated his compatriot and tournament’s top seed Guillermo Garcia-López 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
In a very even final both players won the same amount of points but Carballés-Baena gained one break more than his opponent to prevail after two hours and 22 minutes.
It was his second ATP Challenger title of the season, his fourth overall, following his triumph in Cortina d’Ampezzo in July. The Tenerife native posted a 15-2 mark in the last four weeks to close in on a Top-100 return. Carballés-Baena earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.
He will continue his run in Italy, competing in the Torneo Città di Como next week. His first round opponent will be Canadian teenager Félix Auger-Aliassime. He will be joined by Garcia-López, who will open his Como campaign against fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar.
