Three seeded players advanced to the semi-finals of the €43,000 Torneo Città di Como – Trofeo “Intensa SanPaolo” on Friday.
The tournament’s number one Marco Cecchinato eased past seventh favourite Oscar Otte from Germany 6-3, 6-2. The 24-year-old Italian didn’t face a break point, converting three of his own to seal victory in just under one hour of play.
Next up for Cecchinato will be Filip Krajinovic. The third seed from Serbia rallied from a set down to overcome Gastao Elias of Portugal 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. Krajinovic prevailed after two hours and 30 minutes.
Pedro Sousa knocked out defending champion Kenny de Schepper of France 6-3, 6-4. The tournament’s number four from Portugal saved four of the five break points he faced and won 56 per cent of the total points played to finish the encounter after one hour and 17 minutes.
Sousa will next play Content Moutet, the only remaining unseeded player left in the singles draw. The French teenager battled past Italian wild card entry Matteo Donati 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 after exactly two hours of play.
