Pedro Sousa and Marco Cecchinato will compete in Sunday’s title match of the €43,000 Torneo Città di Como – Trofeo “Intensa SanPaolo”.
Under the lights at Villa Olmo, the 29-year-old from Portugal came back from a set and a break down to deny the first Challenger final appearance for French teenager Corentin Moutet, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday evening. Sousa, who captured two ATP Challenger titles in Francavilla and Liberec earlier this season, will face top seed Marco Cecchinato in the final. The World No. 102 from Italy rallied past the tournament’s third favourite Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Cecchinato won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 39 minutes.
Cecchinato and Sousa will meet for the first time.
Earlier in the day, top seeds Sander Arends from the Netherlands and Antonio Sancic of Croatia defeated Aliaksandr Bury from Belarus and German Kevin Krawietz 7-6, 6-2 to take the doubles title. The final lasted one hour and seven minutes.
