NEW YORK, September 8, 2017

Jean-Julien Rojer from the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania beat Spanish duo Feliciano and Marc López 6-4, 6-3 in the US Open men’s doubles final on Friday. The encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes.

Rojer and Tecau, who captured their first title at Flushing Meadows, rallied from a set down to beat top seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the semi-finals. They only have lost two sets in five matches en route to the final.

“The key to the whole thing is you need to communicate and be out there and fight together,” said Rojer, who has become the first Dutchman to win the US Open since Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis in 1994. “These are pressure-packed situations. That’s a strength of ours. We’ve had a great two weeks. We played well in all the matches and we did so again today.” 

Their previous Grand Slam title together came at 2015 Wimbledon. They finished as the No. 1 team that year, closing with a season-ending title at the Nitto ATP Finals in London. They came in on a nine-match winning and prior to the US Open they captured their 15th career team title at Winston-Salem. During the streak they have won 18 of 20 sets.
