Boyden, Mansouri Kick Off Cary Challenger Qualifying Action

In an opening day filled with multiple three set qualifying matches, one wild card advances into the second round of the $50,000 Atlantic Tire Championships held at Cary Tennis Park.

Blaine Boyden, a junior from nearby University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, defeated Boris Kozlov 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the first afternoon match on stadium court. Boyden had a strong first set, winning 60 per cent of the points including all four break points he faced to prevail after one hour and 42 minutes.

The evening match featured two local collegiate players, Nick Stachowiak and Skander Mansouri. With four aces and only one double fault, Wake Forest Senior Mansouri, defeated Duke Sophmore Stachowiak 6-3, 6-4 in just over one hour.

Escobedo And Sandgren Lead Main Draw Line-Up

Main Draw seeds have been announced. Returning 2016 finalist and #NextGenATP US-American Ernesto Escobedo has earned the tournament’s top seed. The World No. 77 will open his title bid against wild card entry Patrick Kypson.

Tennys Sandgren, fresh from playing Marin Cilic in the US Open, returns to the tournament for his third year, this time as the second seed. Sandgren will take on Mate Pavic from Croatia in the first round. #NextGenATP contender Michael Mmoh will be the tournament’s third seed. The 19-year-old will start his Cary campaign against Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador.
