Jurgen Zopp has clinched his first ATP Challenger title in three years with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tommy Robredo in Sunday’s singles final of the €43,000 TEAN International Tennis Tournament in Alphen aan den Rijn.

The 29-year-old from Estonia battled through the qualifying and saved both break points he faced in the final, converting three of his own to seal victory in 62 minutes.

“Jurgen played very well today,” Robredo had to admit. “It was not easy for me. He was hitting the balls very hard from both sides. He served very well and could play without any pressure. Nonetheless, it was a good week for me.”

After lifting three ITF Futures trophies this season, Zopp celebrated his third ATP Challenger career title, following his triumphs in Kazan 2012 and Helsinki 2014. He earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

“It is a great feeling. I started the tournament from the qualification. I didn’t even dream about winning the tournament,” Zopp told afterwards. “It’s quite a big surprise for me, as I haven’t had any good results at Challenger level so far this year. I feel very pleased right now.”
