The 32-man-singles draw at the 25th edition of the Open BBVA Citutat de Sabadell has been whittled down to the final four, as two Spaniards, one Austrian as well as one player from Canada will compete in Saturday’s semi-finals.

Steven Diez remains the last seeded player left in the draw. The number four of the $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit event held at the Tennis Club Sabadell edged past seventh favourite Yannick Vandenbulcke from Belgium 7-5, 6-1 on Friday afternoon. Diez capitalized on six of his 12 break point chances to seal victory in one hour and 58 minutes.

Next up for the Canadian will be Pascal Brunner. The 28-year-old from Austria benefited from the retirement of second seeded Spaniard and #NextGenATP player Bernabé Zapata Miralles, leading 4-6, 7-6, 4-0.

Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol continues his good run of form beating fellow Spaniard Jaume Pla Malfeito 6-4, 6-3. The 28-year-old from Alicante, who clinched two ITF Futures titles this season, sent down six aces, winning 87 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 23 minutes.

Gutierréz-Ferrol will next take on Albert Alcaraz Ivorra, who entered the main draw as lucky loser. The 22-year-old emerged victorious from the all-Spanish-affair with sixth seed Marc Giner 6-1, 6-4. Alcaraz Ivorra won 66 per cent of the total points played to finish the encounter after one hour and 27 minutes.

Later in the evening, Belgians Christopher Heyman and Yannick Vandenbulcke teamed up to capture the doubles title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sergio Gutiérrez-Ferrol and Sergi Perez Contri of Spain. The final lasted 57 minutes.
