OBERHACHING, October 14, 2017

Robin Kern advanced to his third consecutive singles final at the $15,000 Daikin Open held at the TennisBase in Oberhaching. The 24-year-old gained his second win in as many meetings over top seed and fellow German Daniel Masur in Saturday’s semi-finals.

Kern sent down six aces, winning 86 per cent of his first service points to secure a 7-5, 6-3 victory in one hour and 18 minutes.

“Obviously I feel very comfortable here. However, it was a tough match. We were both a bit nervous in the beginning of the match but the level improved later and I am very happy to be through,” Kern told.

Kern will try to clinch his first title in Oberhaching after he finished runner-up in the last two years, taking on Scott Griekspoor from the Netherlands. The World No. 893 beat seventh favourite Andriej Kapas of Poland 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 11 minutes.

Griekspoor won the only previous encounter between the two at an ITF Futures in the Netherlands earlier this season.

Later in the day, Daniel Masur was back in action teaming up with Johannes Haerteis to capture the doubles title. The German tandem was a set and a break down but rallied past Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland and Briton Neil Pauffley 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. The final lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
