Main draw action kicked off on Monday at the inaugural €43,000 Wolffkran Open held on carpet at the Sportpark in Ismaning. Bernabé Zapata Miralles eased past Ante Pavic of Croatia 6-1, 6-4 in the afternoon session.
The #NextGenATP player from Spain won 78 per cent of his first service points and broke serve four times to advance in only 54 minutes. Zapata Miralles awaits the winner of the encounter between Val Gardena Challenger champion Lorenzo Sonego from Italy and German youngster Daniel Altmaier.
Igor Sijsling has won his first match at ATP Challenger-level since the Wroclaw Open in February. The 30-year-old from the Netherlands, who missed half of last year’s season due to injury, knocked off the tournament’s number six Alex de Minaur from Australia 6-4, 6-1.
Sijsling capitalized on six of his nine break point chances to secure victory in 57 minutes. Next up for the World No. 616 will be either Ukrainian lucky loser Volodymyr Uzhylovskyi or Tristan Lamasine of France.
Earlier in the day, local favourite Daniel Masur opened his home campaign with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Petr Michnev from the Czech Republic. The 22-year-old German, who finished runner-up at the ITF Futures in Oberhaching last Sunday, sent down six aces, winning 75 per cent of his first service point to prevail after one hour and 32 minues. Masur will next take on the winner of the match between fourth seed Oscar Otte from Germany or Austrian wild card entry Andreas Haider-Maurer.
