Matteo Donati and Salvatore Caruso won their second round matches on Thursday at the €43,000 Wolffkran Open to set an all-Italian-quarterfinal-clash at the Sportpark Ismaning.

Caruso, No. 5 seed of the ATP Challenger event, fought past German wild card entry and Val Gardena Challenger runner-up Tim Pütz 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. The 24-year-old from Avola withstood 10 aces, hitting five of his own. In the end, Caruso won one more point more than his opponent to prevail after two hours and 18 minutes.

Donati beat Spanish #NextGenATP player Pedro Martínez 6-1, 7-6 in one hour and 18 minutes. The pair will meet for the third time with their head-to-head record tied at 1-1.

Later in the evening, Dustin Brown emerged victorious from the all-German-battle with qualifier Tobias Simon, winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. The second seed fired 26 aces and saved all seven break points he faced to secure victory in just under two hours of play.

Brown will next take on Polish qualifier Hubert Hurkacz, who benefited from the retirement of Matthias Bachinger after the German had won the opening set 7-6 in 70 minutes.
