Yannick Hanfmann wins the inaugural Wolffkran Open in Ismaning

Yannick Hanfmann captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning Sunday’s final of the inaugural €43,000 WOLFFKRAN Open in Ismaning against Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

The 25-year-old German, who practices at nearby TennisBase Oberhaching, withstood 17 aces, firing seven of his own. Hanfmann was a break down in the final set but used the great support of his home crowd to start a comeback. With his fourth and decisive break in the 12th game of the final set, Hanfmann secured victory in just under two hours of play.

“The crowd was really the key today. They pushed me in the right moments and I was able to fight back,” a happy Hanfmann told Tennis TourTalk afterwards.

“The tournament was greatly organized and I hope they will continue for many more years. It presents a great opportunity for our young guys from the region to fight for ATP ranking points.”

The Karlsruhe native earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points. Hanfmann is enjoying a new career high ranking, now sitting at World No. 114.

Earlier in the day, Marin and Tomislav Draganja clinched the doubles crown with 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 win over German tandem of Dustin Brown and Tim Pütz. The encounter lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

“It was fun today,” Marin Draganja told afterwards.

“It’s tough to say what made the difference, as the surface is very fast here. The plan is to stick together as a team for the rest of the season and hopefully for many many more years.”
