Four of the eight top-seeds headlined the first round action on Day 2 at the ATP Challenger in Vicenza.
The tournament’s favourite Facundo Bagnis opened his campaign with a straight sets victory over Italian wild card Salvatore Caruso, winning 6-2, 6-3. The only top 100 player in the draw won 73% of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 17 minutes. Bagnis is taking on Guilherme Clezar in the second round.
Sixth seed John Millman rallied from a set down to overcome 18-year-old Russian qualifier Andrey Rublev, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The 25-year-old Australian capitalized on five of his 13 break points to seal victory in two hours and one minute. Millman will face Adam Pavlasek next.
Seventh seed Thiemo de Bakker, who lost in the first of the qualification at Roland Garros to Andreas Beck, lost his service only once against Italian wild card Stefano Napolitano, but capitalized on four of his seven break points. The Dutch emerged victorious after 71 minutes, winning 7-5, 6-2 to face Renzo Olivo in the second round.
The tournament’s number eight Bjorn Fratangelo won all of his twelve second service points beating Roberto Marcora 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 11 minutes and will take on Italian wild card Matteo Donati next.
