On Day 1 at the Internazionali di Tennis Citta’ Di Vicenza, the final matches of the qualification were played as well as four first round encounters of the main draw, headlining one of the local heroes.

Filippo Volandri knocked out third-seed James Ward winning 6-0, 6-2. The 33-year-old Italian didn’t have to face a single break point and won 100% per cent of his second service points to seal victory in only 54 minutes.

Renzo Olivo won the first meeting with Chase Buchanan. The 23-year-old Argentine, who lost at Roland Garros’ qualification to Pierre-Hugues Herbert, capitalized on four of his 14 break points, winning 6-4, 6-3 in 75 minutes.

20-year-old Czech talent Adam Pavlasek fired 10 aces to knock out with Dennis Novikov another US-American. The in-form world number 185 from Bilovec, who reached two ATP Challenger finals in a row within the last month, saved all four break points he had to face, gaining a 6-4, 6-2 victory in 65 minutes.

In the closest match of the day Guilherme Clezar defeated Frank Dancevic, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. The 22-year-old Brazilian withstood 13 aces and capitalized on five of his 14 break point opportunities to prevail after two hours and 27 minutes.

Qualifying’s top-seed Peter Gojowczyk served nine aces but only won 35% of his second service points against Juan Ignacio Londero. The 21-year-old Argentine capitalized on four of his seven break points to seal victory in one hour and 39 minutes, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Andrey Rublev made it into the main draw. The Russian teenager defeated Nikola Mektic in 57 minutes, winning 6-4, 6-1.
