BREST, October 26, 2017

Jeremy Chardy beat Alessandro Giannessi of Italy 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday to set a quartefinal clash with #NextGenATP player Stefanos Tsitsipas at the €106,500 Open Brest Arena Crédit Agricole.

The fourth seed from France saved both break points he faced and capitalized on all of his five own chances to finish the enouncter with the Italian in only 50 minutes.

“I felt the ball really well today, in particular with my forehand. I feel better on court every day,” Chardy was pleased with his performance.

Tsitsipas was also in cruise mode, defeating Salvatore Caruso from Italy 6-3, 6-3. The 19-year-old from Greece, sent down nine aces, saving all five break points to advance in one hour and 15 minutes.

Chardy won the only previous meeting with the teenager in straight sets in Brest last year.

“I also know him from practice sessions at the Mouratoglou Academy,” Chardy said. “He is a young and very talented player and deserved to crack the Top 100.”

French wild card entry Ugo Humbert continued his good run of form this week with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over #NextGenATP Italian and eighth seed Matteo Berrettini. The 19-year-old Frenchman, ranked No. 474 in the ATP rankings, broke serve four times to reach the stage of the final eight after only 57 minutes. Humber will next face second favourite Marius Copil of Romania.

Later in the evening, top seed Daniil Medvedev fought past Benjamin Bonzi of France 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. The 21-year-old Russian won two points less than his opponent but prevailed after just under two hours of play. Next up for Medvedev will be German Yannick Maden.
