Three seeded players headlined the second round matches on Day 4 at the ATP Challenger in Vicenza.
The tournament’s fourth favourite Guido Pella had to fight hard to overcome Italian wild card Federico Gaio winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. The world number 113 from Argentina capitalized on four of his eleven break points to finally seal victory in two hours and 11 minutes.
Eighth seed Bjorn Fratangelo celebrated a straight sets win over another Italian wild card. The 21-year-old US-American and former Roland Garros junior champion defeated Matteo Donati 6-4, 6-3 in 57 minutes.
In the second meeting between the two Spaniards in persons of Inigo Cervantes and fifth seed Albert Montaῆes, it was Cervantes beating his compatriot for the first time. The 25-year-old from Javea didn’t have to face a single break point, winning 6-4, 6-1 in 69 minutes.
Cervantes will face Guido Andreozzi in the quarterfinals. The 23-year-old Argentine beat Pere Riba 6-1, 6-3, winning 79% of his first service points in one hour and eight minutes.
In the final match of the day, Argentine qualifier Pedro Cachin upset Filippo Volandri, winning 6-3 7-6 in one hour and 19 minutes.
