Tim Smyczek is the champion of the ninth edition of the $75,000 Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger. The 29-year-old from Florida fought past top seed Tennys Sandgren in an all-US-American final on Sunday 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Smyczek withstood 10 aces, hitting three of his own and converted four of his five break point chances to prevail after just under two hours of play.

By winning his sixth ATP Challenger title, he takes away $10,800 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points. Smyczek has lifted his first trophy since 2015.

“I am really happy with the week. I knew coming in that I was playing well, but that doesn’t always guarantee you to win a tournament. I was happy with the way I competed and I was on the ropes a few times. I was down a set and a break today and I just knew that the margins were really small, so if I kept fighting I’d get a look. And I got on a roll there,” Smyczek was pleased with his performance.
