Next Gen ATP Finals To Start On Tuesday

The groups for the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals taking place from 6 to 11 November in Milan were announced on Sunday. The eight finalists – Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Denis Shapovalov, Borna Coric, Jared Donaldson, Hyeon Chung, Daniil Medvedev and Italian wild card entry Gianluigi Quinzi – will compete in a round-robin format, starting on Tuesday.

World No. 37 Andrey Rublev, who won his first ATP World Tour title at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag in July, is the highest-ranked player competing in Milan. The Russian teenager is leading Group A, with players from three different continents looking to advance to the semi-finals.

Rublev’s first opponent will be Italian wild card Gianluigi Quinzi, who won the final of an Italian 21-and-under qualifying event on Sunday against Filippo Baldi 3-4, 3-4, 4-2, 4-2, 4-2. The qualifying tournament, just like the Next Gen ATP Finals will, used a shorter format, including first to four games sets with tie-break at three-all.

Earlier on Tuesday, Karen Khachanov will open the action taking on fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev. This match will be followed by Denis Shapovalov facing Hyeon Chung and Borna Coric against Jared Donaldson.
