VICENZA, May 31, 2015
Inigo Cervantes claimed his fourth ATP Challenger title, winning the € 42,500 tournament in Vicenza. The 25-year-old Spaniard defeated sixth seed John Millman 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday’s final.
Cervantes lost his service only once but capitalized on four of his five break point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 24 minutes. The world number 164 lifted his second Challenger trophy of the year, after taking the title in Ostrava in May.
“A big thank you to everyone at the Vicenza Challenger. I couldn’t get the win today but that was due to Inigo playing some great tennis. Too good today mate. Still a solid week and into Furth now,” Millman told.
Cervantes was obviously happy. “I played better than what I had thought before the match because I was very tired. I think that the confidence with this tournament was the key to win today and I am very happy for this. Concerning the result, today’s match was not so easy, Millman is a very tough player. At this level the difference is small and for this reason today was a very difficult match. I am very happy my father was here. He was a football player and he follows me 1-2 weeks a year.”
Both players will play the Franken Challenge in Fürth next week. Cervantes will take on Thiemo de Bakker in the opening round, Millman will face a qualifier.
