One of the oldest ATP Challengers in the world is taking place in Fürth this week. It will be the tournament’s 37th edition. Prize money is € 42,500.
The final round of the qualifying took place on Monday with only one seeded player making it into the main draw. Qualification’s fifth favourite Jordi Samper-Montana defeated Ilija Bozoljac, when the Serb was forced to retire at 3-1 in the third set. The 25-year-old Spaniard rallied back from losing the first set 4-6, taking the tie-break of the second, winning 7-3.
The other three qualifiers are Gonzalo Escobar beating Jonathan Eysseric in the final round 6-4, 6-2, Kevin Krawietz taking out Jules Marie 6-2, 6-2 and Lorenzo Giustino winning against Arthur de Greef 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Main draw of the Franken Challenge starts on Tuesday with world number 63 Albert Ramos as the tournament’s top-seed. The 27-year-old Spaniard will face Germain Gigounon for the first time on the tour.
World number 97 and second seed Blaz Rola will face Vincent Millot and third favourite Kimmer Coppejans will meet qualifier Kevin Krawietz.
Highest ranked local player is Tobias Kamke. The world number 117 is seeded fourth and also the tournament’s defending champion. The German defeated Inigo Cervantes in last year’s final.
Weather forecast for the week in Fürth is great with a lot of sunshine and temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius.
