The first four second round matches took place on Day 2 of the main draw at the Franken Challenge in Fürth.
The only seeded player in action was the tournament’s eighth favourite Horacio Zeballos. The 30-year-old Argentine didn’t have to save a single break point and capitalized on three of his own, winning 6-3, 6-2 against Gerald Melzer.
Zeballos will face Taro Daniel in the quarterfinals. The 22-year-old Japanese won 65% of his first service points to defeat German qualifier Kevin Krawietz, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 50 minutes.
Albert Montanes was untroubled in his encounter against Christian Lindell. The 34-year-old Spaniard only had to save one break point, winning 95% of his first service points, to eventually seal victory after exactly one hour. Montanes won 6-2, 6-0 to take on another Swede in the quarterfinals.
Elias Ymer beat qualifier Gonzalo Escobar in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-2. The 19-year-old from Stockholm capitalized on five of his ten break points to serve out after one hour and 14 minutes.
The remaining four second round matches are scheduled for Thursday.
