STUTTGART, November 23, 2017

Grigor Dimitrov started the tennis year with a victory in Brisbane and finished 2017 with the biggest triumph in his career so far. After a two hour and 30 minute battle against Belgian David Goffin, the 26-year-old Bulgarian emerged with the Nitto ATP Finals trophy in his debut at The O2 in London.

The organizers of the MercedesCup in Stuttgart also followed the action with great interest, as Dimitrov will compete in the ATP 250 grass court event, held from 9 to 17 June 2018 at the venue of the TC Weissenhof.

“It’s great that the reigning champion of the ATP Finals will play at the MercedesCup next year. The season finale is after the four Grand Slam events, the most important tournament of the year, so this title has an extremely high status among the stars. Grigor Dimitrov has won all five of his matches in London and has shown outstanding performances. The reward for this is finishing the year at World No. 3 behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with whom we are also negotiating a start at the MercedesCup 2018,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer explains.

“This week was the best time I’ve had in my career so far. The success is a huge motivation for me. But I also know that I can improve my game even further, and I will work hard to prepare for the upcoming season,” Dimitrov said after his triumph in London. In addition to Dimitrov, the start of the Australian Nick Kyrgios at the MercedesCup 2018 has already been confirmed.
