Filippo Baldi, Gianluca di Nicola and Franko Skugor were the final three players to complete the second round of the €43,000 on Andria e Castel del Monte Challenger Wednesday.
Baldi, who entered the main draw with a wild card, edged past Marek Jaloviec from the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4. The 21-year-old Italian won 86 per cent of his first service points and 57 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 11 minutes. Baldi will next take on compatriot and seventh seed Lorenzo Sonego.
Di Nicola fought past Ivan Gakhov of Russia 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in just under two hours of play to face Viktor Galovic from Croatia next. Skugor set a second round clash with Andrea Basso, who upset top seed Stefano Travaglia in the opening round. The 30-year-old from Croatia fired 12 aces to secure a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Laurynas Grigelis of Lithaunia. The encounter lasted one hour and 31 minutes.
Three Players Advance To The Quarterfinals
Fifth seed Uladzimir Ignatik from Belarus beat Frenchman Albano Olivetti 7-6, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals. He will be joined in the stage of the final eight by eighth favourite Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic, who defeated Igor Sijsling from the Netherland 6-3, 6-3 and Belgian qualifier Christopher Heyman, who knocked out the tournament’s number two Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 12 minutes.
