Aslan Karatsev is the champion of the 5th Qatar ITF Futures 2017 held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.The 24-year-old from Russia eased past Benjamin Hassan of Germany 6-4, 6-0 in Sunday’s final.
Karatsev, who battled through the qualifying and beat Lorenzo Frigerio from Italy, Austrian Lucas Miedler and Johan Sebastien Tatlot of France en route to the title match, broke his opponent’s serve five times to secure victory in one hour and 14 minutes.
The current World No. 748 lifted his first trophy of the season, his first since clinching his maiden ATP Challenger title in Kazan two years ago. By claiming his fourth ITF Pro Circuit career title, Karatsev earns $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.
On Friday, Tuna Altuna of Turkey and Markus Eriksson from Sweden took the doubles crown. The second seeds defeated Aslan Karatsev and Fran Zvonimir Zgombic of Croatia 6-1, 6-2. The encounter lasted exactly one hour of play.
The citiy of Doha will host one more $ 15,000 ITF Futures next week.
