Daniel Masur and Tamara Korpatsch are the winners of Germany’s 46th National Tennis Championships held for the eighth consecutive time at the WTB-Indoor courts in Biberach an der Riß.

Masur, who finished runner-up to Andreas Beck in 2014, fought past teenager Marvin Möller 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the men’s singles final on Sunday afternoon. In the pair’s first ever meeting, the 23-year-old from Munich won 52 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 23 minutes.

“This title means a lot to me, as I already had the chance to win the tournament three years ago,” Masur was happy afterwards. “I was a bit nervous at the beginning but I managed to improve my level throughout the match. This triumph is the perfect end to the season.”

Masur will open his new season at the Südwestbank Tennis Grand Prix in Schwieberdingen, where he captured his sixth ITF Pro Circuit career title last year.

Korpatsch Prevails

Earlier in the day, Tamara Korpatsch clinched the singles title in the women’s competition. The 22-year-old top seed from Hamburg, who represents the Club an der Alster, rallied past fourth favourite Katharina Hobgarski 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

Korpatsch sent down three aces, winning 73 per cent of her first service points to prevail after one hour and 49 minutes.

“Being Germany’s National Champions feels great,” Korpatsch said. “I was nervours in the early stages of the match, as there were a lot of people watching the final. I changed my game in the second set, putting a bit more variety in my shots and it worked out. I am very happy.”

Each singles champion receive €3,600 in prize money. The tournament will return to Biberach for the 10th time in December next year.
