ABU DHABI, December 27, 2017
Together with Roberto Bautista-Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta is one of two Spaniards competing in this year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship, which will be held from 28 to 30 December 2017 at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s my first time here. I am very excited and I think it is the best place to finish this magificent year and get rhythm for the next season,” Carreno Busta told after a visit at the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Wednesday afternoon.
The 26-year-old impressed with strong Grand Slam results, making it into the semi-finals of the US Open. Carreno Busta made his first appearance at the ATP Finals and finished the season inside the Top 10. In May, he did not drop a set en route to his third ATP World Tour singles title at Estoril.
“2017 has been the best year in my career. Reaching the final four at the US Open means that this was probably the best tournament in my life. I will also always remember the feeling playing two matches at the O2 in London. Although it will be difficult, I will try to repeat this successful season.
“After London I took two weeks off. Then I went to the Academy of Juan Carlos Ferrero in Alicante and also practiced in Barcelona. We worked pretty hard, trying to improve my level of tennis. Over Christmas I was at home in Asturias to spend some time with my family and now I am here.”
The Gijón native started 2017 in Australia but decided to open the new year in the Middle East.
“It will be a good opportunity to compete with the top players,” Carreno Busta is looking forward to the event. The World No. 10 will open the tournament on Thursday taking on Kevin Anderson of South Africa.
