Daniel Masur will look to clinch his second title in Schwieberdingen when he faces fellow German Kevin Krawietz in Sunday’s singles final of the $15,000 Südwestbank Tennis Grand Prix held at the Tennis King Academy.

2016 champion Masur defeated Belgian veteran Maxime Authom 6-3, 6-4. The second seed capitalized on three of his five break point chances to advance in one hour and seven minutes.

Krawietz faced a tough battle to overcome compatriot Tobias Simon. The 25-year-old Coburg native withstood 23 aces, hitting 11 of his own to secure a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 victory after two hours of play.

Krawietz/Masur Take Doubles Title

Later on Saturday, the two Germans teamed up to win the doubles title. Krawietz/Masur rallied past Frenchman Sebastien Boltz and Kai Wehnelt from Germany 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 in the final. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

“It’s always nice to start the season with a victory,” Krawietz was pleased. “It was a pretty close match today. In doubles, only a few points can make the difference. We did not have the best start, lost our serve early but we eventually found our rhythm and played very well towards the end.”

Today’s partners on the court will face each other in the singles final on Sunday. “Fortunately, we only meet in the final and not in the first round,” Krawietz is looking forward to the tournament’s climax. “We know each other very well and have been practicing together for a very long time. It will be an interesting match.”
