NAPLES, January 18, 2018
Top seed Javier Martí captured the title of the $15,000 Sanchez-Casal Men’s Futures Sponsored by German BMW Naples. The 26-year-old Spaniard eased past German youngster Louis Wessels 6-4, 6-0 in Sunday’s singles final.
Martí, who advanced to the title match without dropping set, converted four of his seven break point chances to prevail after one hour and seven minutes.
“It was a great week for all of us,” Martí, who reached a career high World No. 170 in 2012, was happy. “I didn’t know what to expect here. The players here weren’t ranked that high but I think a lot of players will go far. The college players, in partcular, showed a lot of potential.”
By lifting his 18th ITF Pro Circuit title Martí earns $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points. The Madrid native will stay in the United States for another week, competing in the ITF Futures in Sunrise.
