The quarterfinals of the €43,000 Koblenz Open are set with only three seeded players left in the singles draw. Italian Marco Cecchinato, the highest ranked player left in the tournament, lost to German wild card entry Mats Moraing 6-4, 6-4.
Moraing, who is in good shape finishing runner-up at the ATP Challenger in Bangkok two weeks ago, sent down four aces and saved all four break points he faced, capitalizing on two of his own to advance in one hour and nine minutes.
The German leftie is currently ranked on a career high World No. 205 and will next challenge Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan, who cruised past Czech youngster Zdenek Kolar 6-2, 6-1 in only 50 minutes.
Later in the evening, sixth seed Kenny de Schepper ended the successful run of local hero Benjamin Hassan, who entred the main draw with a wild card. The 30-year-old Frenchman overcame a one set deficit to earn 6-7, 1-6, 6-4 victory. De Schepper broke serve six times to prevail after two hours and two minutes. He will next play Alexey Vatutin of Russia.
Ilya Ivashka from Belarus taking on fifth seeded German Yannick Maden and Mohamed Safwat from Egypt facing third favourite Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine will complete the quarterfinals line-up.
