QUIMPER, February 3, 2018
Quentin Halys of France and Russia’s Alexey Vatutin are the singles finalists at the €43,000 Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale held at the Parc des Expos in Quimper.
On Saturday afternoon, Halys delighted the home crowd by knocking out the top seed of the ATP Challenger event Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6. The 21-year-old local favourite fired 12 aces, saved both break points he faced, converting four of his own to prevail after one hour and 40 minutes.
Vatutin defeated Frenchman Calvin Hemery 6-4, 7-6. The World No. 166 from Volgograd was in control of the encounter, winning 56 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
Halys won the only previous meeting between the two finalists, beating Vatutin in three sets in the second round of the ATP Challenger in Rennes last week. Both players could clinch their second trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, their first title of the season.
