MUNICH, February 7, 2018

Organizers of the BMW Open by FWU announced on Wednesday the return of defending champion and World No. 5 Alexander Zverev for the 2018 edition held from 30 April to 6 May 2018 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich. The 20-year-old German, who defeated Argentina’s Guido Pella in last year’s final, lifted his first and so far only ATP World Tour trophy on German soil.

“The tournament in Munich fits into my schedule, so I am looking forward to playing in front of my home crowd again,” said Zverev. “I have great memories of this tournament, clinching the title here last year. The fans are great and I feel really good on the courts. Thanks to the organizers, who asked me to return and obviously the goal will be to defend the title.”

In 2017, Zverev also triumphed at the ATP 250 Open Sud de France in Montpellier, the ATP 500 event in Washington and became the youngest ATP Masters 1000 champion since 19-year-old Djokovic at 2007 Miami. The Hamburg native achieved a career-high World No. 3 in November.

Alexander Zverev will be joined in Munich by his older brother Mischa. In 2015 the brothers also teamed-up and finished runner-up in the doubles competition.

“Mischa is a very charismatic player and one of the fans’ favourites,” organizer Michael Mronz is pleased to present both siblings in the capital of Bavaria.
