Unseeded teenager Miomir Kecmanovic upended third seeded US-American Michael Mmoh with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 victory in the stage of the final eight of the $100,000 Kunal Patel San Francisco Open on Friday at Bay Club San Francisco.

The 18-year-old sent down seven aces, winning 76 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 38 minutes. Next up for Kecmanovic will be Jason Jung, who defeated No. 6 seed Noah Rubin from the United States 6-3, 6-1.

Fifth seeded Bradley Klah from California was also an upset victim. The five-time ATP Challenger champion fell 6-2, 7-6 to Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in an afternoon match that lasted one hour and 28 minutes. The 23-year-old Furtwangen native, who lives in Tampa, capitalized on three of his six break point opportunities to advance to the semi-finals. Koepfer will next play Dennis Novikov, who derailed seventh favourite Filip Peliwo of Canada 7-5, 7-5 in one hour and 21 minutes.
