Maximilian Marterer of Germany captured his first title of the season by winning the 25th edition of the Challenger Cherbourg – La Manche, held on hard courts at the Complexe Sportif Chantereyne.

The No. 2 seed of the €43,000 ATP Challenger event defeated French wild card entry Constant Lestienne 6-4, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final. Marterer saved two of the three break points he faced, converting three of his own to seal victory in one hour and 21 minutes.

By lifting his sixth ATP Challenger career title, Marterer earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking poinst. The 22-year-old Nürnberg native will reach a new career high ranking at World No. 70 on Monday. Marterer will next play at the ATP 250 event Marseille facing French veteran Gilles Simon in the opening round.

Earlier in the day, Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Austrian Tristan-Samuel Weissborn took the doubles title. The tandem upset No. 2 seeds Antonio Sancic from Croatia and Briton Ken Skupski 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in the final. The encounter lasted 69 minutes.
