Petra Kvitova captured the title of the WTA Qatar Total Open. The No. 16 seed from the Czech Republic battled past third favourite Garbine Muguruza of Spain 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.
Kvitova, who ousted Caroline Wozniacki, Julia Görges and Elina Svitolina en route to the title match, sent down six aces, winning 62 per cent of her first service points to prevail after two hours and 16 minutes.
The World No. 21 also lifted the trophy in St. Petersburg two weeks ago and is continuing her comeback following six months on the sidelines after a knife attack at her home in December 2016.
“It’s a very special feeling to be back,” Kvitova told. “I remember sometime last year when I was asked about this, I couldn’t even dream of it.”
