STARNBERG, February 23, 2018

According to Spanish national daily sports newspaper Marca, World No. 5 Alexander Zverev has parted company with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, who wanted the young German to be more professional on but also off court while Zverev wanted to keep enjoying his freedom when not in competition or training.

The former World No. 1 from Valencia has been working with Zverev since July last year. They had a great start when Zverev captured back to back titles at the Citi Open in Washington as well as at the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal. Marca reports that the relationship has come to an end and that the situation is “insuperable”.

Thus, the Australian Open would have been the last tournament in which they worked together. The 20-year-old Hamburg native would continue to rely on his father as head coach. It is possible that Zverev could count on the help of Boris Becker in the nearer future. However, no official statement has been issued yet.
