BRAUNSCHWEIG; March 23, 2018
The ATP Challenger Tour will return to Braunschweig for the 25th time this year, so it will be time to celebrate a very special edition of the Sparkassen Open, held from 5 to 14 July 2018 at the Braunschweiger Tennis- und Hockey Club. The tournament had been known as Nord/LB Open until 2010 and is played on outdoor red clay courts.
The event with a total prize money of €127,000+H features engagement with the fans and a world-class tennis showcase every year. The concept of “Tennistainment”, the combination of world class tennis action and attractive side events in a festive atmosphere, has been the soul of the tournament for more than 15 years.
“We promise eight days of excellent tennis as well as 10 days of live music with top bands and DJs,” organizer Harald Tenzer stated this week during the tournament’s offical launch. The ATP Challenger event will be held during the second week of The Championships in Wimbledon.
In Braunschweig’s Langerfeldt-Haus an exhibition featuring souvenirs of the 25-year-long history of the tournament will open its gates to the public from 3 May to 9 June 2018. All spectators are happily invited to contribute to the collection with their personal tournament items.
“Our ambition is to have no stagnancy and to develop the tournament every year,” tournament director Volker Jäcke commented.
The Sparkassen Open had been given the top honour on the ATP Challenger Tour, receiving the ATP Challenger of the Year Award every season since 2014.
