A new champion on the ATP Challenger Tour will be crowned on Sunday when Juan Ignacio Londero and Roberto Quiroz will meet in the singles final of the $100,000 CDMX Open held on clay at the Club Deportivo Chapultepec.
Londero clinched his seventh match of th e week by beating Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 on Saturday evening. The 24-year-old Argentine qualifier broke his opponent two times to prevail after one hour and 56 minutes.
“It was a very tough match. I knew from the beginning that I had to face a great rival. We had faced several times, he adapts very well to these conditions. So I am happy that I won a great match. It’s a great week for me, as it will be my first final. I had been six times in the semifinals,” Londero said.
“I come from Panama last week losing with five match points, so I am very happy and I hope to continue with the same good performance tomorrow. “
Quiroz came back from a set down to overcome Facundo Arguello from Argentina 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. The 26-year-old from Ecuador saved four of the nine break points he faced, capitalizing on two of his own to seal victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
Both players met three times before with Londero leading 2-1 in head-to-head records. Their last encounter took place in the qualifying of the Santiago Challenger earlier this season. Londero emerged victorious in straight sets.
