MADRID, April 23, 2018

Pedro Martínez Vilella clinched his first title of the season, lifting the trophy of the $25,000 VII TORNEO INTERNACIONAL VILLA DE MADRID held on clay at the Club de Tenis Chamartín. The 22-year-old Spaniard eased past defending champion and No. 5 seed Pedro Cachín of Argentina in Sunday’s singles final 6-4, 6-0.

Vilella Martínez, who only dropped one set en route to the title, saved both break points he faced, converting four of his own to seal victory in one hour and six minutes.

“Pedro is a really strong player but I kept focused on the match. That was key today,” Vilella Martínez told.

The Elche native, who practices at the Equelite Tennis Academy of Juan Carlos Ferrero in Villena, takes away $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points. The World No. 327 will stay in Spain to compete at the ITF Futures in Majadahonda this week.

On Friday, Pedro Cachín and Patricio Heras of Argentina teamed up to capture the doubles title. The tandem fought past Diego Hidalgo of Ecuador and Juan Carlos Saez from Chile 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 in the final. The encounter lasted one hour and 16 minutes.
