20-year old Marc Polmans flew into the $75,000 Tallahassee TennisChallenger finals Friday evening, after a 6-1, 6-2, win over Max Purcell. In the battle of the Aussies, Polmans came onto the court with determination and quickly broke Purcell and took the opening set 6-1. In the second set he continued with the punishing style of play and took closed out the match after one hour and eight minutes with a final score of 6-1, 6-2.
Polmans is having a standout season after taking home his first ATP Challenger Tour singles title in Launceston this past February. He then went on to win the next three futures events he played on the ITF Pro Circuit. Polmans is currently ranked No. 206 in the world and with the semifinal win he is expected to reach a new career-high ranking and break into the top 170 on Monday.

Earlier in the day, US-American Noah Rubin put a stop to Hugo Dellien’s dream run on the ATP Challenger Tour. Rubin came out in full force and took the opening set 6-2. In the second set, Dellien started to find his game and lengthen the points with Rubin. Rubin kept his eye on the prize and closed out the match with a final score o 6-2, 6-4. Polmans and Rubin have never played in a professional match before. Both players will be going for their second title of 2018 (Rubin in New Caledonia & Polmans in Launceston), and their first career title on clay.
Advancing to the doubles final were No. 4 seeds Enrique Lopez Perez and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and the US-American duo of Robert Galloway and Denis Kudla. Championship Saturday kicks off at 12:00 p.m. with the opening ceremonies where Lincoln High School ROTC will present the colors before Kathleen Gredler sings the national anthem. The doubles final will then get started not before 12:30 p.m. The highly anticipated singles final between Rubin and Polmans will then follow not before 2:00 p.m.
