Harrison And Dellien Storm Into Savannah Challenger Final

SAVANNAH, May 6, 2018

The singles final is set at the 2018 St. Joseph’s/Candler (SJ/C) Savannah Challenger. US-American Christian Harrison will take on No. 7 seed Hugo Dellien Sunday afternoon.

In the first singles semifinal of the day, Michael Mmoh took on Bolivian tennis star Hugo Dellien. The 20-year old US-American quickly took the opening set 6-1 on his eighth set point. In the second set, Dellien started to find the baseline and hung in with Mmoh. Dellien broke Mmoh and was able to take the set 7-5. In the final and decisive set, Dellien ran away with it and closed out the match with a final score on 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Dellien is having a strong start to his clay season after picking up his first Challenger singles title two weeks ago at the Sarasota $100,000. He then followed it up with a run to the semifinals of the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger. Currently at a career-high ranking of No. 158 in the world, Dellien will be going for his second Challenger singles title on Sunday.

Next up, in the battle of the US-Americans, Christian Harrison took on #NextGenATP star Reilly Opelka. both players held serve until late in the set when Harrison was able to break and then close out the opening set 7-5. In the second set Harrison was unstoppable as he closed out the match 7-5, 6-2. Currently ranked No. 244 in the world, Harrison will be playing in his first ATP Challenger Tour singles final on Sunday.

Doubles final set

In the remaining doubles semifinal, Luke Bambridge and Akira Santillan took on Martin Cuevas and Hugo Dellien. Bambridge and Santillan quickly took the opening set 6-4, but Cuevas and Dellien battled back and breezed through the second set 6-1. In the third-set tiebreaker, Bambridge and Santillan closed out the match with a final score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. They will now take on No. 3 seeds Enrique López Pérez and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the championship match.

Championship Sunday gets underway at 1:00 p.m. with the doubles final, followed by the trophy presentation and singles final.
