Menéndez-Maceiras Clinches Inaugural Puerto Vallarta Open Title

PUERTO VALLARTA, May 6, 2018

Top seed Adrian Menéndez-Maceiras is the champion of the inaugural $75,000 Puerto Vallarta Open presentado por La Afición. The World No. 148 from Spain rallied past fifth favourite Danilo Petrovic of Serbia 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 in Saturday’s singles final held on hard courts of the Parque Parotain in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Menéndez-Maceiras withstood 12 aces, hitting three of his own and broke his opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and four minutes. The 32-year-old Marbella native clinched his first title of the season, lifting his fourth trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour. He takes away $10,800 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.

Danilo Petrovic returned to action later in the day, clinching the doubles title alongside Ante Pavic of Croatia. The unseeded duo battled past Benjamin Lock from Zimbabwe and Fernando Romboli of Brazil 6-7, 6-4, 10-5. The final lasted one hour and 31 minutes.
