Top seed David Guez is the champion of last week’s $15,000 Djerba Open, the 18th ITF Pro Circuit men’s event held on Tunisian soil this season. The 35-year-old from France defeated the tournament’s No. 2 Andres Artunedo Martinavarro of Spain 6-1, 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final.
Guez, who didn’t drop a set en route to the title match, capitalized on all of his five break point opportunities to prevail after 61 minutes.
“I am very happy to have won here in Djerba,” Guez stated. The French veteran beat David Perez Sanz in the Djerba Open final at the beginning of April. “It’s my second trophy I have won within a month, I came back with the idea of winning another tournament.”
Guez takes away $1,944 in prize money as well as 18 ATP Ranking points.
Verbeek takes another title
On Saturday, Diego Hidalgo of Ecuador and Sem Verbeek from the Netherlands clinched the doubles title. The top seeds edged past No. 2 seeds Anis Ghorbel of Tunisia and Vasko Mladenov from Bulgaria 6-2, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 12 minutes.

“We played very well and I am happy that we coud lwin this match. Thanks a lot to my partner,” Hidalgo told.
“Congratulation to the finalists as well. I think they played a great tournament. It was a very good match for both teams. Thanks to my partner we connected very well and am happy to leave Tunisia with a trophy again,” Verbeek added.
It was Verbeek’s third consecutive title in Djerba with two different partners. The 24-year-old left-hander climbs 14 spots to World No. 253 in the ATP doubles Ranking.
