Reilly Opelka is the champion of the 11th edition of the €106,000 BNP Paribas Primrose held on clay courts in Bordeaux. The unseeded US-American rallied past French wild card entry Gregoire Barrere 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final.

Opelka fired 22 aces, winning 79 per cent of his first service points. The #NextGenATP star broke his opponent three times to prevail after two hours and 20 minutes.

“I served great, served a lot of aces from the first match and competed really hard,” said Opelka. “I love it here. Even off the court I have been hanging out in the city a lot and enjoying my time. The architecture in incredible.”

The title marked the first clay-court crown for Opelka at any level. By lifting his second ATP Challenger trophy, the 20-year-old Florida resident took away €15,200 in prize money as well as 110 ATP Ranking points. Opelka previously prevailed on the indoor hard courts in Charlottesville 2016.

Earlier in the day, Bradley Klahn from the United States and Canadian Peter Polansky clinched the doubles title. The tandem fought past the all-Argentine-combination of Guillermo Duran and Maximo Gonzalez 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. The final lasted one hour and 13 minutes.
