Lenz Battles Past Molleker At Marburg Open

Julian Lenz advanced to his second quarterfinal at ATP Challenger level, reaching the stage of the final eight of the Marburg Open. The World No. 689 emerged victorious from the all-German encounter with teenager Rudolf Molleker 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) on Wednesday afternoon.

Lenz was solid on his serve, firing 19 aces. The 25-year-old from Giessen saved three of the four break points he faced to prevail in the tie-break of the final set after one hour and 45 minutes.

Lenz, who returns to this stage of an ATP Challenger event for the first time since Napa, California in 2014, will next challenge French qualifier Elliot Benchetrit. The 19-year-old Nice native defeated compatrtiot Gleb Sakharov 6-3, 6-0 in only 65 minutes.

Top seed Jurgen Zopp fell in the second round. The World No. 107 from Estonia lost to Juan Ignacio Londero 6-4, 6-2. Londero will next face fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq, who knocked off seventh favourite Alexey Vatutin of Russia 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

In the remaining two quarterfinals on Thursday Oscar Otte from Germany will take on #NextGenATP Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime and Andrej Martin of Slovakia will play No. 3 seed Hugo Dellien from Bolivia.
