KITZBÜHEL, July 5, 2018
Organizers of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel announced on Thursday that Austria’s Dennis Novak was awarded the first wild card into the main draw of the ATP 250 event. The clay-court tournament will take place from 28 July to 4 August 2018.
Novak is currently enjoying a great run at Wimbledon. The 24-year-old battled through the qualifying and upset No. 17 seed Lucas Pouille to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the very first time.
“We are very happy to see how free Dennis is playing at the moment,” tournament director Alexander Antonitsch commented. “Dennis has shown very good tennis in the past few weeks, is ranked on a career high and has more than earned the wild card due to his current performance.”
Novak will return to Kitzbühel for the fifth time. His best result came in 2015 when he reached the second round falling to Fabio Fognini. One year later, he finished runner-up in doubles alongside his best friend Dominic Thiem.
“I am looking forward to Kitzbühel and hope to build on my recent success,” Novak said.
