Fabio Fognini has captured his second ATP World Tour title of the season, winning the SkiStar Swedish Open in Bastad. The No. 3 seed from Italy edged past No. 4 seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet in Sunday’s singles final.
Fognini, who triumphed in Sao Paulo earlier this year, broke his opponent five times and won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 27 minutes.

“[After the second set] I was thinking there is only one set left,” said Fognini. “It is me or [Gasquet], so I tried to push myself one more time to bring more good tennis and play aggressive. I think that was the key of the match, starting really solid and really aggressive at the beginning of the third set.”
The World No. 15 from San Remo receives 250 ATP Ranking points and collects €89,435 in prize money.

Later in the day, Fognini was back in action, teaming up with Simone Bolelli in the doubles final. Yet, the two Italians lost second seeds Julio Peralta of Chile and Argentine Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 11 minutes.
