The Generali Open kicked off on Saturday with the qualifying. 19-year-old Austrian Jurij Rodionov headlined the action with a 6-2, 6-4 win over former top 10-player Ernests Gulbis.
The teenager, who recently captured his first ATP Challenger crown in Almaty, capitalized on four of his five break point chances to secure victory in 69 minutes. Next up for Rodionov Lorenzo Sonego of Italy.
“I think that I will have a good chance tomorrow. I am prepared for the match. To reach the main draw here would be terriffic,” Rodionov said.
