Swiss Tennis and the Swiss Open Gstaad Tournament Management have given three players Wild card entry into the tournament to come up against the likes of Stan Wawrinka, David Goffin or Feliciano López. Swiss Tennis awarded its Wild card to Marco Chiudinelli, and the Tournament Management awarded its Wild card to Andrey Rublev. The third Wild card entry will be confirmed shortly before the tournament begins.

Basel-born 33 year old Marco Chiudinelli (ATP 345) was part of the 2014 Davis Cup winning team. In Gstaad he won the doubles event with Michael Lammer in 2009 and has already taken part on five occasions in the singles event.

As a direct illustration of the tournament motto, “Today’s champions meet the stars of tomorrow”, the second Wild card has been given to a very promising young talent from Russia Andrey Rublev (ATP 190), aged just 17 years old, and who was last year world number one in junior tournaments and winner of the junior Roland Garros event, and who has a wonderful career ahead of him.

During the last Davis Cup meeting against Spain, the Russian won the decisive point against the former winner of the Swiss Open Gstaad, Pablo Andujar, in a disputed game 6:4, 7:6 (3), 6:3. He has continued to climb up the world rankings and his participation is proof that the new generation of players is beginning to compete with “today’s champions”.

The “Legends’ Match” due to take place on Sunday 26 July to mark the 100th anniversary of the tournament will represent a stark contrast. Some of the biggest stars to have graced the Gstaad Open will play, namely Roy Emerson, Ilie Nastase, Alex Corretja, Wojtek Fibak, Carl-Uwe Steeb, Heinz Günthardt, Marc Rosset and Roland Stadler. This all-new interpretation of the traditional exhibition match will allow tennis lovers to delve into the legendary history of the Gstaad Tournament.
