The World No. 4 from Germany has started a long-term coaching partnership with the retired Czech US-American professional tennis player.

“He knows what it takes to win at every single level of our sport so he’s definitely someone that can help a lot,” Zverev told reporters during the Western & Soutern Open in Cincinnati last week.

“I don’t have any coaching changes right now, that’s not what I mean, but in the future, yes for sure I think he’s somebody that can help. If that happens I promise I’ll let you know and you guys and write a big or small story about it, whatever you choose.”

Lendl – one of the sport’s greatest

Lendl was the World No. 1 for 270 weeks in the 1980s and finished his career with 94 singles titles. He won eight Grand Slam titles and was runner-up a record 11 times. He also clinched seven year-end championships.

Speaking to Sky tennis commentator Paul Häuser, Zverev manager Paul Apey said on Wednesday, “Sascha and Ivan have known each other for a number of years and now it was the right time to work together. This can only help Sascha in the next phase of his career. A tremendous component will be added to his team.”
